After February 17, 2009, all full-power television stations will broadcast
only in digital. If you use "rabbit ears" or a rooftop antenna with your analog
television, you must take action to continue receiving television broadcasts.
The Federal Government is offering U.S. households up to two $40 coupons to help
with the cost of certified TV converter boxes. A converter box is a one-time
purchase that will allow your analog TV to work after February 17, 2009 to
continue receiving television broadcasts. Certified TV converter boxes are
expected to cost between $40 and $70. Coupons are free, but supply is limited.
Coupons will be mailed to you by the Federal Government. Click

CrisisLink Selected to Expand
2-1-1 VIRGINIA to Northern Virginia
The Council of Community
Services, serving as the sole source contractor for the 2-1-1 VIRGINIA statewide
system, has signed a contract with CrisisLink of Arlington to serve as the 2-1-1
center for the Northern Virginia region. CrisisLink is a nonprofit organization
that has provided crisis intervention services, including information and
referral services, to the region since 1969. CrisisLink is a member of VAIRS and
its staff have been actively involved in the 2-1-1 VIRGINIA Task Force.
CrisisLink is in the process of expanding its capacity which will enable its
staff to begin taking 2-1-1 calls in February 2008 completing the implementation
of 2-1-1 across the Commonwealth of Virginia. The other five 2-1-1 VIRGINIA
regional centers' welcome CrisisLink into the fold!
"We're very excited to
be chosen as the 2-1-1 provider for Northern Virginia," says Carol Loftur-Thun,
Executive Director of CrisisLink. "The social services maze is so complicated to
navigate that many people don't know where to start. If they are elderly,
disabled, homeless, sick or in crisis, it can be overwhelming to try to access
help. CrisisLink has been linking people to community resources for over 38
years, so this is a natural extension of our Hotlines, and we're grateful to our
state legislators and the Virginia Department of Social Services for helping to
make 2-1-1 possible for Northern Virginia."

Putney, 2-1-1 VIRGINIA Coordinator at (540) 985-0131, extension 211 or

New Notification Requirement for Organizations With Gross Receipts of
$25,000 or Less Issued by Internal Revenue Service
The Pension Protection Act of 2006 requires you to file an annual
electronic notice for tax periods beginning after December 31, 2006, if you
are not required to file Form 990 (or 990-EZ), Return of Organization Exempt
From Income Tax, because your gross receipts are normally $25,000 or less.
If you are a section 509(a)(3) supporting organization, generally, you must
file a paper or electronic Form 990 (or Form 990-EZ) even if your gross
receipts are normally $25,000 or less. However, if you are a supporting
organization of a religious organization and your gross receipts are normally $5,000 or less you may file an annual electronic notice instead of Form 990
(or Form 990-EZ).
The annual electronic notice is due
by the 15th day of the fifth month after the close of your tax period. For example, if your tax
period ends on December 31, 2007, the annual electronic notice is due May 15, 2008.
